Welding
Welders work with metal and know its strengths and weaknesses. If you like the idea of working with metal and building, then welding may be the career path for you! Welding is the process of joining pieces of metal together. Heat is applied to metal pieces and this causes the metals to bond together.
Admission requirements
- Grade 9/10/11/12
- The ability to Read & Write in English
- You must be 16 years
How do I become a Welder?
The period of study involves both practical and theoretical training. Once qualied, there are many career opportunities for Welders in South Africa. Apprenticeships or training for a specic period of time allows you to write a trade test, if successful you will be qualied as an artisan The practical welding course is designed for beginners and experienced welders. On completion of this course, you would receive a certicate of competence, which is recognized in the market place. You will also go for trade test to become a certied Welder ( Red Seal).
What does a Boilermaker do?
- Reading and understanding blueprints prior to starting a project
- Sourcing the materials to be used in the project
- Measuring and cutting materials to specications
- Welding materials using the correct materials to join the metals
together - Checking finished work to make sure that it falls within the tolerances
marked on the blueprints
